The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 218%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

In value terms, watermelon exports surged to $X in 2022. In general, exports showed a significant expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 101% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

Exports by Country

Singapore (X tons), Malaysia (X tons) and Myanmar (X tons) were the main destinations of watermelon exports from Thailand, together comprising 72% of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Myanmar (with a CAGR of +111.9%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Singapore ($X), Malaysia ($X) and Russia ($X) appeared to be the largest markets for watermelon exported from Thailand worldwide, together comprising 57% of total exports. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Lao People's Democratic Republic ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Saudi Arabia (+16.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

After three years of growth, overseas purchases of watermelons decreased by -98.9% to X kg in 2019. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a dramatic curtailment. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 671%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons, and then reduced remarkably in the following year.

In value terms, watermelon imports reduced dramatically to $X in 2019. In general, imports faced a precipitous setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 647%. Imports peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2019, imports failed to regain momentum.

In 2019, Myanmar (X kg) was the main supplier of watermelon to Thailand, accounting for a approx. 100% share of total imports.
