Belgium (X tons), Germany (X tons) and Italy (X tons) were the main destinations of cigarettes containing tobacco exports from the Netherlands, with a combined 40% share of total exports. These countries were followed by France, Spain, Switzerland, the UK, Greece, Finland, the United Arab Emirates, Turkey, the United States and Malta, which together accounted for a further 38%.

As a result, the export price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

After two years of growth, purchases abroad of cigarettes containing tobacco decreased by -19.7% to X tons in 2022. Over the period under review, imports recorded a deep slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 32% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, cigarettes containing tobacco imports dropped remarkably to $X in 2022. In general, imports saw a perceptible decline. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 with an increase of 34%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

Lithuania (X tons), Poland (X tons) and Germany (X tons) were the main suppliers of cigarettes containing tobacco imports to the Netherlands, together comprising 84% of total imports.
