In 2022, overseas shipments of cocoa butter were finally on the rise to reach X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year declining trend. Overall, exports, however, saw a drastic downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 24% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2019 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, cocoa butter exports declined to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed a noticeable reduction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 with an increase of 41% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
Ireland (X tons), Poland (X tons) and Germany (X tons) were the main destinations of cocoa butter exports from the UK, together comprising 84% of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Germany (with a CAGR of +14.5%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Ireland ($X) remains the key foreign market for cocoa butter exports from the UK, comprising 52% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Poland ($X), with a 24% share of total exports. It was followed by Belgium, with a 5.6% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Ireland amounted to +11.7%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Poland (+0.8% per year) and Belgium (-19.5% per year).

In 2022, the average cocoa butter export price amounted to $X per ton, shrinking by -16.1% against the previous year. In general, export price indicated a moderate increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +4.5% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when the average export price increased by 44% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2015 to 2022, the average export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Norway ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Poland ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

Imports into the UK
After two years of decline, supplies from abroad of cocoa butter increased by 35% to X tons in 2022. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.3% from 2012 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Imports peaked at X tons in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, cocoa butter imports rose rapidly to $X in 2022. Overall, total imports indicated buoyant growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.5% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports decreased by -16.9% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when imports increased by 50% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

The Netherlands (X tons), Cote d'Ivoire (X tons) and Germany (X tons) were the main suppliers of cocoa butter imports to the UK, with a combined 86% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Cote d'Ivoire (with a CAGR of +42.1%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the Netherlands ($X) constituted the largest supplier of cocoa butter to the UK, comprising 55% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Cote d'Ivoire ($X), with a 26% share of total imports. It was followed by Germany, with a 4.5% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value from the Netherlands stood at +11.4%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Cote d'Ivoire (+36.8% per year) and Germany (+2.2% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the average cocoa butter import price amounted to $X per ton, which is down by -16.6% against the previous year. Overall, import price indicated a perceptible increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +4.1% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, cocoa butter import price decreased by -20.1% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when the average import price increased by 54%. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the countries with the highest prices were France ($X per ton) and Germany ($X per ton), while the price for Cote d'Ivoire ($X per ton) and India ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.
