In 2022, shipments abroad of animal and pet feed decreased by -5.9% to X tons for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year rising trend. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of 462%. The exports peaked at X tons in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, animal feed exports shrank to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, posted a pronounced increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 when exports increased by 500%. The exports peaked at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
Libya (X tons) was the main destination for animal feed exports from Tunisia, with a 72% share of total exports. Moreover, animal feed exports to Libya exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Yemen (X tons), more than tenfold. Thailand (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 5% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume to Libya amounted to +15.7%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Yemen (+40.6% per year) and Thailand (+3.0% per year).
In value terms, Libya ($X) remains the key foreign market for animal and pet feed exports from Tunisia, comprising 63% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Yemen ($X), with a 5.8% share of total exports. It was followed by Australia, with a 4.8% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value to Libya stood at +17.0%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Yemen (+38.9% per year) and Australia (+20.9% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The average animal feed export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, which is down by -4.5% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.5%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 an increase of 23%. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Vietnam ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Thailand ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Turkey (+15.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Tunisia
In 2022, the amount of animal and pet feed imported into Tunisia rose notably to X tons, increasing by 14% against the previous year. Overall, total imports indicated a perceptible expansion from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.2% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports decreased by -8.3% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 60%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, animal feed imports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a pronounced increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.7% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports decreased by -13.6% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 87%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2022, Turkey (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of animal feed to Tunisia, accounting for a 65% share of total imports. Moreover, animal feed imports from Turkey exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, France (X tons), sixfold. China (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 6.5% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from Turkey amounted to +53.0%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: France (-7.2% per year) and China (+16.4% per year).
In value terms, Turkey ($X) constituted the largest supplier of animal and pet feed to Tunisia, comprising 60% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by France ($X), with a 14% share of total imports. It was followed by Italy, with a 5.3% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value from Turkey amounted to +62.3%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: France (-4.6% per year) and Italy (-16.7% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The average animal feed import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, growing by 3.9% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 an increase of 16% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was France ($X per ton), while the price for Uruguay ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Uruguay (+9.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
