After two years of decline, supplies from abroad of anise, badian, fennel and coriander increased by 47% to X tons in 2022. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a deep reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 220% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2020 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, anise, badian, fennel and coriander imports stood at $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a deep contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 93% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
Egypt (X tons), Syrian Arab Republic (X tons) and India (X tons) were the main suppliers of anise, badian, fennel and coriander imports to Tunisia, together comprising 96% of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Egypt (with a CAGR of +10.5%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Egypt ($X) constituted the largest supplier of anise, badian, fennel and coriander to Tunisia, comprising 54% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Syrian Arab Republic ($X), with a 20% share of total imports. It was followed by India, with a 19% share.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Egypt ($X per ton), while the price for Syrian Arab Republic ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Ukraine (+4.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
