Libya (X tons) was the main destination for candy, sweets, and nonchocolate confectionery exports from Tunisia, accounting for a 56% share of total exports. Moreover, candy, sweets, and nonchocolate confectionery exports to Libya exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, the United States (X tons), sevenfold. Gabon (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with an 8.4% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume to Libya amounted to +6.8%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the United States (+92.3% per year) and Gabon (-3.6% per year).
In value terms, Libya ($X) remains the key foreign market for candies, sweets, and nonchocolate confectionery exports from Tunisia, comprising 50% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by the United States ($X), with a 12% share of total exports. It was followed by France, with a 6.2% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value to Libya amounted to +9.7%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the United States (+91.4% per year) and France (+8.3% per year).

In 2022, the average export price for candies, sweets, and nonchocolate confectionery amounted to $X per ton, reducing by -23.3% against the previous year. In general, export price indicated a measured expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +3.2% over the last decade. Moreover, candy, sweets, and nonchocolate confectionery imports from Turkey exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Egypt (X tons), twofold. France (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with an 8.9% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Turkey was relatively modest. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Egypt (-2.0% per year) and France (+3.1% per year).
In value terms, Turkey ($X) constituted the largest supplier of candies, sweets, and nonchocolate confectionery to Tunisia, comprising 33% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Germany ($X), with a 16% share of total imports. It was followed by Egypt, with a 12% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value from Turkey stood at +10.1%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Germany (+16.6% per year) and Egypt (+9.5% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The average import price for candies, sweets, and nonchocolate confectionery stood at $X per ton in 2022, leveling off at the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price saw a noticeable expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 an increase of 33%. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs in 2022 and is likely to continue growth in the near future.
