Imports into Tunisia

After three years of growth, purchases abroad of glass fibre mats decreased by -14% to X tons in 2022. Overall, imports, however, enjoyed resilient growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 42% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tons in 2021, and then shrank in the following year.

In value terms, glass fibre mat imports totaled $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a strong expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 37% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in the near future.

Imports by Country

In 2022, China (X tons) constituted the largest glass fibre mat supplier to Tunisia, with a 56% share of total imports. Moreover, glass fibre mat imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Egypt (X tons), threefold. The third position in this ranking was held by Italy (X tons), with a 5.5% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from China stood at +9.3%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Egypt (+34.5% per year) and Italy (-2.7% per year).

In value terms, China ($X) constituted the largest supplier of glass fibre mats to Tunisia, comprising 52% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Egypt ($X), with a 20% share of total imports. It was followed by Italy, with a 5.7% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from China totaled +12.0%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Egypt (+45.2% per year) and Italy (-1.2% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The average glass fibre mat import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, surging by 17% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.2%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 an increase of 20%. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs in 2022 and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
