In value terms, plastic household articles exports fell to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate noticeable growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 96% against the previous year. The exports peaked at $X in 2021, and then shrank in the following year.
Exports by Country
France (X tons) was the main destination for plastic household articles exports from Tunisia, with a 51% share of total exports. Moreover, plastic household articles exports to France exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Libya (X tons), twofold. Italy (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with an 8.7% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to France amounted to +4.5%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Libya (+2.5% per year) and Italy (+66.8% per year).
In value terms, France ($X) remains the key foreign market for household articles and toilet articles of plastics exports from Tunisia, comprising 73% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Libya ($X), with an 8.9% share of total exports. It was followed by Italy, with a 4.6% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value to France amounted to +5.8%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Libya (-1.1% per year) and Italy (+67.0% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The average plastic household articles export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, rising by 2% against the previous year. In general, export price indicated perceptible growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +3.2% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, plastic household articles export price increased by +2.4% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 an increase of 24%. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was France ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Libya ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Mauritania (+10.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Tunisia
In 2022, purchases abroad of household articles and toilet articles of plastics decreased by -0.7% to X tons, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. Overall, total imports indicated a resilient increase from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +7.2% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports decreased by -3.6% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when imports increased by 56% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, plastic household articles imports reduced to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, enjoyed a resilient increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when imports increased by 40% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2021, and then contracted in the following year.
Imports by Country
Turkey (X tons), China (X tons) and France (X tons) were the main suppliers of plastic household articles imports to Tunisia, with a combined 70% share of total imports. Portugal, Italy, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia and Spain lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 23%.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Portugal (with a CAGR of +71.1%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest plastic household articles suppliers to Tunisia were Portugal ($X), France ($X) and Turkey ($X), with a combined 61% share of total imports.
In terms of the main suppliers, Portugal, with a CAGR of +75.3%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when the average import price increased by 23% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2021, and then fell in the following year.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Portugal ($X per ton), while the price for Saudi Arabia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
