Libya (X tons) was the main destination for pimenta pepper exports from Tunisia, with a 91% share of total exports. It was followed by Algeria (X tons), with a 2.2% share of total exports. France (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 2% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Libya amounted to -17.1%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Algeria (-22.6% per year) and France (-37.0% per year).
In value terms, Libya ($X) remains the key foreign market for pimenta pepper exports from Tunisia, comprising 88% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by France ($X), with a 2.5% share of total exports. It was followed by Algeria, with a 1% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value to Libya totaled -15.5%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: France (-37.3% per year) and Algeria (-23.0% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the average pimenta pepper export price amounted to $X per ton, surging by 11% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 an increase of 38%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. Over the period under review, imports recorded a perceptible setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 80%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X tons in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, pimenta pepper imports shrank notably to $X in 2022. Overall, imports continue to indicate a deep reduction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when imports increased by 77% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2020 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2022, China (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of pimenta pepper to Tunisia, accounting for a 77% share of total imports. Moreover, pimenta pepper imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Spain (X tons), sixfold. The third position in this ranking was held by India (X tons), with a 6% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from China amounted to +19.7%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Spain (+10.6% per year) and India (-26.4% per year).
In value terms, China ($X) constituted the largest supplier of pimenta pepper to Tunisia, comprising 70% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Spain ($X), with a 14% share of total imports. It was followed by India, with a 9.8% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from China amounted to +20.6%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Spain (+9.4% per year) and India (-23.8% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the average pimenta pepper import price amounted to $X per ton, which is down by -4.8% against the previous year. In general, the import price showed a slight decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 an increase of 28%. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.
