The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 155% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at $X in 2021, and then shrank sharply in the following year.

Italy (X tons), Spain (X tons) and France (X tons) were the main destinations of plastics pipe and pipe fitting exports from Tunisia, together accounting for 70% of total exports. Romania, Cameroon, Burkina Faso, Benin, Senegal, Morocco and Poland lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 15%.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Benin (with a CAGR of +69.5%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Italy ($X), Spain ($X) and France ($X) were the largest markets for plastics pipe and pipe fitting exported from Tunisia worldwide, with a combined 91% share of total exports.

Spain, with a CAGR of +65.0%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, among the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Tunisia

In 2022, supplies from abroad of plastics pipes and pipe fittings decreased by -35.1% to X tons, falling for the third year in a row after two years of growth. In general, imports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 37%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2020 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, plastics pipe and pipe fitting imports fell dramatically to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, recorded a buoyant increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when imports increased by 64% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2021, and then fell dramatically in the following year.

In 2022, Italy (X tons) constituted the largest plastics pipe and pipe fitting supplier to Tunisia, accounting for a 36% share of total imports. Moreover, plastics pipe and pipe fitting imports from Italy exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, China (X tons), threefold. The third position in this ranking was held by Turkey (X tons), with a 9.5% share.

In value terms, France ($X), Italy ($X) and Germany ($X) appeared to be the largest plastics pipe and pipe fitting suppliers to Tunisia, with a combined 56% share of total imports. Poland, Malta, China, Turkey, Morocco and Saudi Arabia lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 28%.

Malta, with a CAGR of +2,400.1%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average import price for plastics pipes and pipe fittings amounted to $X per ton, waning by -16% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, continues to indicate perceptible growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when the average import price increased by 47%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton, and then reduced dramatically in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was France ($X per ton), while the price for Saudi Arabia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
