Tin Market Size in Tunisia
In 2022, after two years of decline, there was significant growth in the Tunisian tin market, when its value increased by 7.8% to $X. Overall, consumption, however, continues to indicate a pronounced setback. Over the period under review, the market attained the maximum level at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, tin production amounted to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. In general, production continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when the production volume decreased by 99.9% against the previous year. Over the period under review, production reached the maximum level in 2022 and is likely to continue growth in years to come.

In 2022, shipments abroad of tin increased by 13% to X kg for the first time since 2017, thus ending a four-year declining trend. Over the period under review, exports showed buoyant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 1,178% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, tin exports expanded sharply to $X in 2022. In general, exports posted a buoyant expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when exports increased by 1,009% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
Belgium (X kg) was the main destination for tin exports from Tunisia, with a 80% share of total exports. Moreover, tin exports to Belgium exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, France (X kg), fourfold.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Belgium amounted to +9.8%.
In value terms, Belgium ($X) and France ($X) constituted the largest markets for tin exported from Tunisia worldwide.
Among the main countries of destination, France, with a CAGR of +63.7%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review.
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the average tin export price amounted to $X per ton, falling by -3.9% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 an increase of 43% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2021, and then contracted modestly in the following year.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was France ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Belgium totaled $X per ton.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to France (+12.0%).
Tin Imports
Imports into Tunisia
After two years of decline, overseas purchases of tin increased by 26% to X tons in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a noticeable downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 113%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2018 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, tin imports expanded to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, recorded a noticeable downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 166% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2018 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
Belgium (X tons), Indonesia (X tons) and Poland (X tons) were the main suppliers of tin imports to Tunisia, together comprising 70% of total imports. The Netherlands, Spain, France, Peru, Hungary and Malaysia lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 26%.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by the Netherlands (with a CAGR of +34.0%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Indonesia ($X), Belgium ($X) and Spain ($X) appeared to be the largest tin suppliers to Tunisia, with a combined 62% share of total imports. Poland, France, the Netherlands, Hungary, Peru and Malaysia lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 35%.
Among the main suppliers, the Netherlands, with a CAGR of +34.4%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The average tin import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, shrinking by -19.4% against the previous year. In general, the import price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when the average import price increased by 49% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton, and then reduced dramatically in the following year.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Spain ($X per ton), while the price for Belgium ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Hungary (+10.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
