The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 330% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2014 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
France (X units) was the main destination for women knitwear exports from Tunisia, with a 54% share of total exports. Moreover, women knitwear exports to France exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Ireland (X units), threefold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Germany (X units), with a 12% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to France stood at +4.3%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Ireland (+2,218.4% per year) and Germany (+23.2% per year).
In value terms, France ($X), Italy ($X) and Germany ($X) were the largest markets for women knitwear exported from Tunisia worldwide, together comprising 84% of total exports. Ireland, Spain, the UK and the United Arab Emirates lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 12%.
Ireland, with a CAGR of +1,925.4%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, among the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the average women knitwear export price amounted to $X per unit, falling by -5.4% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price recorded a perceptible shrinkage. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 an increase of 33% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the peak figure at $X per unit in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Italy ($X per unit), while the average price for exports to Ireland ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the UK (+1.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

Imports into Tunisia
After six years of growth, overseas purchases of women's or girls' clothing (knitted or crocheted) decreased by -63.6% to X units in 2022. In general, imports, however, showed prominent growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 73% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X units, and then reduced sharply in the following year.
In value terms, women knitwear imports contracted dramatically to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, posted temperate growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 138%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
Italy (X units), Turkey (X units) and China (X units) were the main suppliers of women knitwear imports to Tunisia, with a combined 63% share of total imports. Bangladesh, Portugal, France and Morocco lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 13%.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Bangladesh (with a CAGR of +25.6%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Turkey ($X), China ($X) and Italy ($X) were the largest women knitwear suppliers to Tunisia, with a combined 57% share of total imports. Bangladesh, Morocco, Portugal and France lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 14%.
Bangladesh, with a CAGR of +20.9%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the average women knitwear import price amounted to $X per unit, surging by 53% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, showed a noticeable downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 an increase of 57%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per unit. From 2021 to 2022, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Morocco ($X per unit), while the price for Italy ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (-0.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
