China (X cubic meters), the Netherlands (X cubic meters) and Italy (X cubic meters) were the main destinations of wood chips and particles exports from Tunisia.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by China (with a CAGR of 0.0%), while the other leaders experienced a decline.

In value terms, the Netherlands ($X) remains the key foreign market for wood chips and particles exports from Tunisia, comprising 87% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by China ($X), with an 8% share of total exports.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($X per cubic meter), while the average price for exports to China ($X per cubic meter) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Senegal (+23.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

Imports into Tunisia

In 2022, purchases abroad of wood chips and particles was finally on the rise to reach X cubic meters for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year declining trend. In general, imports showed a strong expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by 193%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X cubic meters. From 2019 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, wood chips and particles imports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of 100% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2019 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

In 2022, Germany (X cubic meters) constituted the largest wood chips and particles supplier to Tunisia, with a 44% share of total imports. Moreover, wood chips and particles imports from Germany exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, France (X cubic meters), threefold. The third position in this ranking was held by China (X cubic meters), with a 2.7% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Germany amounted to +21.9%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: France (-3.0% per year) and China (0.0% per year).
