Alkali Metals Market Size in Turkey
In 2021, after two years of growth, there was decline in the Turkish alkali metals market, when its value decreased by -4.5% to $X. Over the period under review, consumption, however, recorded significant growth. Over the period under review, the market attained the peak level at $X in 2020, and then shrank in the following year.

Exports from Turkey
In 2021, after two years of decline, there was significant growth in shipments abroad of alkali or alkaline-earth metals, rare-earth metals, scandium and yttrium, mercury, when their volume increased by 144% to X tons. In general, exports, however, saw a pronounced reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when exports increased by 7,010%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2016 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, alkali metals exports stood at $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports enjoyed a moderate expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 when exports increased by 3,512% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2016 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
Slovakia (X tons), Azerbaijan (X tons) and Finland (X tons) were the main destinations of alkali metals exports from Turkey, with a combined 59% share of total exports. Chad, India, Iraq, Israel, Oman and Australia lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 40%.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Israel (with a CAGR of +65.6%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, India ($X), Azerbaijan ($X) and Chad ($X) constituted the largest markets for alkali metals exported from Turkey worldwide, together accounting for 88% of total exports. These countries were followed by Finland, Israel, Iraq, Slovakia, Oman and Australia, which together accounted for a further 11%.
Israel, with a CAGR of +80.6%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, among the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the average alkali metals export price amounted to $X per ton, reducing by -58.4% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, continues to indicate a resilient increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 an increase of 315% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Australia ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Slovakia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Oman (+53.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Alkali Metals Imports
Imports into Turkey
In 2021, supplies from abroad of alkali or alkaline-earth metals, rare-earth metals, scandium and yttrium, mercury decreased by -16.8% to X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year rising trend. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed significant growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when imports increased by 169%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2020, and then dropped sharply in the following year.
In value terms, alkali metals imports surged to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, showed a significant expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when imports increased by 130% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
In 2021, China (X tons) was the main supplier of alkali metals to Turkey, accounting for a approx. 99% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from China amounted to +34.9%.
In value terms, China ($X) constituted the largest supplier of alkali or alkaline-earth metals, rare-earth metals, scandium and yttrium, mercury to Turkey.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from China amounted to +29.8%.
Import Prices by Country
The average alkali metals import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, jumping by 72% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, continues to indicate a deep reduction. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
As there is only one major supplying country, the average price level is determined by prices for China.
From 2012 to 2021, the rate of growth in terms of prices for China amounted to -3.8% per year.
