Imports into Turkey
In 2021, imports of apples into Turkey shrank to X tons, dropping by -12.9% against 2020. Overall, imports recorded a deep downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 with an increase of 46%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, apple imports shrank remarkably to $X in 2021. In general, imports continue to indicate a deep downturn. In 2021, Iran (X tons) constituted the largest apple supplier to Turkey, accounting for a 68% share of total imports. Moreover, apple imports from Iran exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Cyprus (X tons), fivefold. Russia (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with an 8.4% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume from Iran amounted to +28.8%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Cyprus (+24.9% per year) and Russia (+2.5% per year).
In value terms, Iran ($X) constituted the largest supplier of apples to Turkey, comprising 69% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Russia ($X), with a 12% share of total imports. It was followed by Cyprus, with a 10% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value from Iran totaled +24.8%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Russia (+0.2% per year) and Cyprus (+22.4% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the average apple import price amounted to $X per ton, falling by -14.3% against the previous year. Overall, the import price continues to indicate a deep setback. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 an increase of 19%. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
