Stationery Market Size in Turkey

In 2022, the Turkish stationery market decreased by -3.3% to $X, falling for the third consecutive year after three years of growth. Over the period under review, consumption, however, enjoyed a measured expansion. Stationery consumption peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, consumption remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, stationery production fell to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. Overall, production enjoyed buoyant growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when the production volume increased by 76%. Stationery production peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, production stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports from Turkey

In 2022, the amount of articles of stationery exported from Turkey soared to X tons, growing by 18% on 2021. Over the period under review, exports posted a strong increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when exports increased by 29% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

In value terms, stationery exports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. In general, exports posted a strong increase. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Israel (X tons), Romania (X tons) and the United States (X tons) were the main destinations of stationery exports from Turkey, together comprising 42% of total exports. Greece, Germany, Spain, France, the UK, Italy, Syrian Arab Republic, Bulgaria, Iraq and Azerbaijan lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 39%.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Syrian Arab Republic (with a CAGR of +329.8%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest markets for stationery exported from Turkey were Israel ($X), the United States ($X) and Germany ($X), with a combined 35% share of total exports. Romania, Italy, Spain, France, Greece, the UK, Bulgaria, Azerbaijan, Iraq and Syrian Arab Republic lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 42%.

Among the main countries of destination, Syrian Arab Republic, with a CAGR of +255.5%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the average stationery export price amounted to $X per ton, with an increase of 17% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Syrian Arab Republic ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Italy (+1.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Turkey

In 2022, overseas purchases of articles of stationery increased by 2% to X tons, rising for the second consecutive year after six years of decline. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a abrupt curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when imports increased by 34% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2015 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, stationery imports stood at $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, faced a dramatic decrease. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 26% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2022, China (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of stationery to Turkey, with a 60% share of total imports. Moreover, stationery imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Germany (X tons), threefold. Poland (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 5.8% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from China totaled -18.5%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Germany (+0.2% per year) and Poland (-2.2% per year).

In value terms, China ($X) constituted the largest supplier of articles of stationery to Turkey, comprising 43% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Germany ($X), with a 19% share of total imports. It was followed by Italy, with a 13% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value from China stood at -17.8%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Germany (-2.8% per year) and Italy (+3.9% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The average stationery import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, remaining constant against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, showed a abrupt downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when the average import price increased by 45%. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Switzerland ($X per ton), while the price for China ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
