Russia (X tons) was the main destination for articles of zinc exports from Turkey, with a 52% share of total exports. Egypt (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 3.4% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Russia amounted to +33.8%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the UK (+2.2% per year) and Egypt (-13.3% per year).

In value terms, Russia ($X), the UK ($X) and France ($X) constituted the largest markets for articles of zinc exported from Turkey worldwide, together accounting for 68% of total exports. These countries were followed by Morocco, Qatar, Iraq, Egypt, Germany, Spain and Poland, which together accounted for a further 14%.

In terms of the main countries of destination, Qatar, with a CAGR of +36.7%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average articles of zinc export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, with a decrease of -13.9% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, posted a buoyant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of 95%. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2020, and then shrank in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Iraq ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Egypt ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Morocco (+19.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Turkey

In 2021, imports of articles of zinc into Turkey rose significantly to X tons, growing by 9.5% against 2020. In general, total imports indicated a modest expansion from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.5% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +11.0% against 2018 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when imports increased by 46%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +3.6% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 27% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Italy (X tons), Spain (X tons) and Peru (X tons) were the main suppliers of articles of zinc imports to Turkey, together comprising 63% of total imports. Germany, China, Sweden, Estonia and France lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 33%.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Estonia (with a CAGR of +264.6%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
