Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, artificial and colloidal graphite exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports posted a prominent increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when exports increased by 70%. The exports peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

Iraq (X tons) was the main destination for artificial and colloidal graphite exports from Turkey, with a 43% share of total exports. Moreover, artificial and colloidal graphite exports to Iraq exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Azerbaijan (X tons), threefold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Israel (X tons), with a 13% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Iraq amounted to +60.6%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Azerbaijan (+26.8% per year) and Israel (+34.8% per year).

In value terms, the largest markets for artificial and colloidal graphite exported from Turkey were Italy ($X), Iraq ($X) and Iran ($X), with a combined 39% share of total exports.

Iraq, with a CAGR of +39.1%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, in terms of the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the average artificial and colloidal graphite export price amounted to $X per ton, dropping by -10.5% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price showed a perceptible reduction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 an increase of 102% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2017 to 2021, the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports into Turkey

For the third consecutive year, Turkey recorded growth in purchases abroad of artificial graphite, colloidal, semi-colloidal graphite and preparations, which increased by 45% to X tons in 2021. Overall, imports continue to indicate strong growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of 60%. Imports peaked in 2021 and are likely to see gradual growth in the near future.

In value terms, artificial and colloidal graphite imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports posted a resilient increase. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

Romania (X tons), China (X tons) and Germany (X tons) were the main suppliers of artificial and colloidal graphite imports to Turkey, together accounting for 56% of total imports. Brazil, Ukraine, South Africa, Sweden and Norway lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 32%.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by South Africa (with a CAGR of +139.7%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, China ($X), Romania ($X) and Germany ($X) constituted the largest artificial and colloidal graphite suppliers to Turkey, together comprising 43% of total imports. These countries were followed by Brazil, Ukraine, South Africa, Sweden and Norway, which together accounted for a further 18%.

In terms of the main suppliers, South Africa, with a CAGR of +158.6%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the average artificial and colloidal graphite import price amounted to $X per ton, with an increase of 28% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, continues to indicate a perceptible descent. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when the average import price increased by 29% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while the price for Brazil ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
