Baby Garment Market Size in Turkey
The Turkish baby garment market reduced rapidly to $X in 2022, waning by -31.1% against the previous year. In general, consumption, however, posted a buoyant expansion. Baby garment consumption peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, consumption failed to regain momentum.
Baby Garment Production in Turkey
In value terms, baby garment production reduced markedly to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. Over the period under review, production, however, enjoyed resilient growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when the production volume increased by 63%. Baby garment production peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, production remained at a lower figure.
Baby Garment Exports
Exports from Turkey
In 2022, baby garment exports from Turkey shrank to X units, with a decrease of -13.4% compared with the previous year. Over the period under review, exports, however, enjoyed a remarkable increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 31% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at X units in 2021, and then dropped in the following year.
In value terms, baby garment exports contracted slightly to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, recorded a prominent expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 32%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X, and then fell modestly in the following year.
Exports by Country
Iraq (X units) was the main destination for baby garment exports from Turkey, accounting for a 15% share of total exports. Moreover, baby garment exports to Iraq exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Spain (X units), twofold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Libya (X units), with a 6.5% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume to Iraq stood at +37.1%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Spain (+9.8% per year) and Libya (+25.9% per year).
In value terms, Spain ($X), the UK ($X) and Germany ($X) were the largest markets for baby garment exported from Turkey worldwide, together accounting for 30% of total exports. Iraq, Italy, Kazakhstan, Serbia, Libya, Israel, Lebanon, Ukraine, Kyrgyzstan and Algeria lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 27%.
Lebanon, with a CAGR of +40.0%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, in terms of the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
The average baby garment export price stood at $X per unit in 2022, increasing by 13% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, recorded a pronounced slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 an increase of 17% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per unit. From 2014 to 2022, the average export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the UK ($X per unit), while the average price for exports to Algeria ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Serbia (+13.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Baby Garment Imports
Imports into Turkey
In 2022, overseas purchases of babies’ garments and clothing accessories (knitted or crocheted) increased by 4.3% to X units, rising for the second year in a row after five years of decline. In general, imports, however, recorded a noticeable curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 33% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X units in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, baby garment imports rose modestly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a abrupt decline. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when imports increased by 39% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
Bangladesh (X units), China (X units) and Georgia (X units) were the main suppliers of baby garment imports to Turkey, with a combined 44% share of total imports. Cambodia, the UK, Spain, India, Morocco, Portugal, Indonesia, Vietnam, Myanmar and Pakistan lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 47%.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Myanmar (with a CAGR of +57.9%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Georgia ($X), Bangladesh ($X) and China ($X) constituted the largest baby garment suppliers to Turkey, with a combined 50% share of total imports. Cambodia, Spain, the UK, India, Vietnam, Morocco, Portugal, Myanmar, Indonesia and Pakistan lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 42%.
Myanmar, with a CAGR of +69.3%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the average baby garment import price amounted to $X per unit, therefore, remained relatively stable against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, saw a mild reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 an increase of 28% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure at $X per unit in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Georgia ($X per unit), while the price for Bangladesh ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Georgia (+16.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
