The Turkish bed linen of cotton market expanded significantly to $X in 2022, increasing by 10% against the previous year. Germany (X tons) was the main destination for bed linen of cotton exports from Turkey, accounting for a 25% share of total exports. Moreover, bed linen of cotton exports to Germany exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, the United States (X tons), twofold. Italy (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with an 8.7% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume to Germany totaled -1.2%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the United States (-6.1% per year) and Italy (+9.9% per year).

In value terms, Germany ($X) remains the key foreign market for bed linen of cotton exports from Turkey, comprising 27% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the United States ($X), with a 9.8% share of total exports. It was followed by Italy, with a 9.1% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Germany amounted to -1.1%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the United States (-4.7% per year) and Italy (+11.0% per year).

Imports into Turkey

Bed linen of cotton imports into Turkey skyrocketed to X tons in 2022, jumping by 42% compared with 2021 figures. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a slight decline. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 with an increase of 264% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2016 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, bed linen of cotton imports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, recorded a pronounced contraction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 when imports increased by 102%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2016 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2022, Turkmenistan (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of bed linen of cotton to Turkey, accounting for a 54% share of total imports. Moreover, bed linen of cotton imports from Turkmenistan exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Pakistan (X tons), fivefold. Portugal (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with an 11% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Turkmenistan totaled +2.2%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Pakistan (-0.3% per year) and Portugal (+11.8% per year).

In value terms, Portugal ($X), Turkmenistan ($X) and Pakistan ($X) appeared to be the largest bed linen of cotton suppliers to Turkey, together accounting for 64% of total imports. China, Bangladesh, Spain and Italy lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 25%.

In terms of the main suppliers, Spain, with a CAGR of +40.6%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.

The average bed linen of cotton import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, with an increase of 25% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, saw a slight decrease. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 an increase of 72%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2021 to 2022, the average import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Portugal ($X per ton), while the price for Turkmenistan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
