Ceramic Tile Market Size in Turkey
In 2022, the Turkish ceramic tile market was finally on the rise to reach $X for the first time since 2014, thus ending a seven-year declining trend. Over the period under review, consumption, however, showed a mild descent. Ceramic tile consumption peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, consumption failed to regain momentum.
Ceramic Tile Production in Turkey
In value terms, ceramic tile production contracted to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. Over the period under review, production saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 with an increase of 14% against the previous year. As a result, production attained the peak level of $X. From 2015 to 2022, production growth failed to regain momentum.
Ceramic Tile Exports
Exports from Turkey
After six years of growth, overseas shipments of ceramic tiles decreased by -26.1% to X square meters in 2022. In general, exports, however, posted a noticeable expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 29%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X square meters, and then contracted sharply in the following year.
In value terms, ceramic tile exports contracted modestly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, enjoyed a prominent expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 35%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X, leveling off in the following year.
Exports by Country
The United States (X square meters), Germany (X square meters) and Israel (X square meters) were the main destinations of ceramic tile exports from Turkey, with a combined 46% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for the United States (with a CAGR of +20.3%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the United States ($X), Germany ($X) and Israel ($X) constituted the largest markets for ceramic tile exported from Turkey worldwide, with a combined 43% share of total exports.
The United States, with a CAGR of +21.8%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, among the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
The average ceramic tile export price stood at $X per square meter in 2022, picking up by 34% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.7%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($X per square meter), while the average price for exports to Finland ($X per square meter) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the Netherlands (+4.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Ceramic Tile Imports
Imports into Turkey
In 2022, supplies from abroad of ceramic tiles increased by 38% to X square meters, rising for the second year in a row after three years of decline. In general, imports recorded a modest increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 105%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X square meters in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, ceramic tile imports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports enjoyed a buoyant increase. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
In 2022, India (X square meters) constituted the largest ceramic tile supplier to Turkey, accounting for a 33% share of total imports. Moreover, ceramic tile imports from India exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Spain (X square meters), twofold. Italy (X square meters) ranked third in terms of total imports with an 8.4% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from India stood at +39.1%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Spain (+0.2% per year) and Italy (+7.6% per year).
In value terms, the largest ceramic tile suppliers to Turkey were India ($X), Italy ($X) and Spain ($X), with a combined 53% share of total imports. These countries were followed by China, France and Egypt, which together accounted for a further 8.5%.
Egypt, with a CAGR of +55.6%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The average ceramic tile import price stood at $X per square meter in 2022, rising by 101% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price recorded a buoyant expansion. As a result, import price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Italy ($X per square meter), while the price for Egypt ($X per square meter) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by India (+6.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
