For the third consecutive year, Turkey recorded growth in shipments abroad of cyclanes, cyclenes and cycloterpenes (excluding cyclohexane), which increased by 99% to X tons in 2021. Overall, exports recorded significant growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 666%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, cyclanes, cyclenes and cycloterpenes exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. In general, exports enjoyed a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 349% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

Exports by Country

Romania (X tons) was the main destination for cyclanes, cyclenes and cycloterpenes exports from Turkey, with a 71% share of total exports. Moreover, cyclanes, cyclenes and cycloterpenes exports to Romania exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Turkmenistan (X tons), sixfold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Bangladesh (X tons), with a 7.4% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Romania totaled +676.6%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Turkmenistan (+16.7% per year) and Bangladesh (0.0% per year).

In value terms, Romania ($X) emerged as the key foreign market for cyclanes, cyclenes and cycloterpenes (excluding cyclohexane) exports from Turkey, comprising 79% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Turkmenistan ($X), with an 11% share of total exports. It was followed by Germany, with a 3.9% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Romania totaled +528.9%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Turkmenistan (+13.8% per year) and Germany (+83.3% per year).

In 2021, the average cyclanes, cyclenes and cycloterpenes export price amounted to $X per ton, growing by 17% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, showed a deep downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when the average export price increased by 35% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Uzbekistan ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Bangladesh ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Uzbekistan (+16.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

Imports into Turkey

For the sixth consecutive year, Turkey recorded growth in purchases abroad of cyclanes, cyclenes and cycloterpenes (excluding cyclohexane), which increased by 26% to X tons in 2021. In general, imports posted a strong increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 36%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure in 2021 and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, cyclanes, cyclenes and cycloterpenes imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Overall, imports continue to indicate a resilient increase. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

China (X tons), South Korea (X tons) and Germany (X tons) were the main suppliers of cyclanes, cyclenes and cycloterpenes imports to Turkey, together comprising 87% of total imports. The Netherlands, Brazil, Taiwan (Chinese) and Japan lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 10%.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Taiwan (Chinese) (with a CAGR of +125.3%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average cyclanes, cyclenes and cycloterpenes import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, surging by 29% against the previous year. Over the last nine years, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.8%. As a result, import price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Brazil ($X per ton), while the price for Japan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by South Korea (+7.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
