The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +99.8% against 2013 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when exports increased by 14%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

In value terms, prepared dish and meal exports rose rapidly to $X in 2021. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +2.2% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when exports increased by 12% against the previous year. The exports peaked in 2021 and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Exports by Country

Iraq (X tons) was the main destination for prepared dish and meal exports from Turkey, with a 18% share of total exports. Moreover, prepared dish and meal exports to Iraq exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, the Czech Republic (X tons), threefold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Germany (X tons), with a 4.2% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume to Iraq amounted to +16.1%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the Czech Republic (+2.6% per year) and Germany (+4.1% per year).

In value terms, the largest markets for prepared dish and meal exported from Turkey were Iraq ($X), the Czech Republic ($X) and the United States ($X), with a combined 27% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Germany, the Netherlands, Azerbaijan, Russia, Ethiopia, Nigeria, Angola, Yemen, Iran and Libya, which together accounted for a further 31%.

Angola, with a CAGR of +35.5%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, among the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the average prepared dish and meal export price amounted to $X per ton, declining by -1.9% against the previous year. Overall, the export price recorded a deep setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of 4.6%. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Iraq ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

For the third year in a row, Turkey recorded growth in overseas purchases of prepared dishes and meals, which increased by 11% to X tons in 2021. Overall, total imports indicated a prominent increase from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +7.8% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +10.5% against 2017 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of 20%. Imports peaked in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

In value terms, prepared dish and meal imports expanded sharply to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +6.0% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by 20%. Imports peaked in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

The Netherlands (X tons), Germany (X tons) and Italy (X tons) were the main suppliers of prepared dish and meal imports to Turkey, together comprising 58% of total imports. Poland, Thailand, Bulgaria, France, Malaysia, the UK, the United States and Austria lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 33%.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Bulgaria (with a CAGR of +54.4%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In general, the import price, however, continues to indicate a slight shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when the average import price increased by 16%. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($X per ton), while the price for Bulgaria ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
