Overall, exports, however, showed modest growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 155%. The exports peaked at X units in 2021, and then dropped in the following year.
In value terms, optical radiation instruments exports fell significantly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports saw a perceptible decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 83% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
Azerbaijan (X units), the United Arab Emirates (X units) and Iraq (X units) were the main destinations of optical radiation instruments exports from Turkey, together accounting for 44% of total exports. Benin, Turkmenistan, Germany, Afghanistan, Cyprus, Algeria, Iran, Russia, Libya and Kyrgyzstan lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 40%.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Libya (with a CAGR of +74.6%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest markets for optical radiation instruments exported from Turkey were Iraq ($X), Azerbaijan ($X) and Russia ($X), together accounting for 39% of total exports. Iran, the United Arab Emirates, Turkmenistan, Germany, Cyprus, Libya, Kyrgyzstan, Benin, Algeria and Afghanistan lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 29%.
In terms of the main countries of destination, the United Arab Emirates, with a CAGR of +57.6%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the average optical radiation instruments export price amounted to $X per unit, dropping by -21.3% against the previous year. Overall, the export price showed a perceptible contraction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 an increase of 45% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Russia ($X per unit), while the average price for exports to Benin ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Azerbaijan (+4.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Turkey
In 2022, overseas purchases of instruments using optical radiations decreased by -24.4% to X units, falling for the second year in a row after three years of growth. Over the period under review, imports, however, posted a prominent expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when imports increased by 104% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X units in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, optical radiation instruments imports reduced to $X in 2022. In general, total imports indicated tangible growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.2% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports decreased by -34.7% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when imports increased by 50% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at $X in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
In 2022, Japan (X units) constituted the largest optical radiation instruments supplier to Turkey, accounting for a 56% share of total imports. Moreover, optical radiation instruments imports from Japan exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Germany (X units), eightfold. The third position in this ranking was taken by China (X units), with a 7.5% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from Japan stood at +21.6%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Germany (+0.2% per year) and China (+13.7% per year).
In value terms, Japan ($X), the United States ($X) and Germany ($X) constituted the largest optical radiation instruments suppliers to Turkey, with a combined 57% share of total imports. The UK, China, Ireland, Switzerland and Italy lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 21%.
Ireland, with a CAGR of +19.8%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average optical radiation instruments import price stood at $X per unit in 2022, growing by 13% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, showed a perceptible descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 an increase of 13%. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($X per unit), while the price for Japan ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
