Metal Chain Market Size in Turkey
After three years of decline, the Turkish metal chain market increased by 32% to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, consumption showed strong growth. Over the period under review, the market hit record highs at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Over the period under review, production attained the peak level at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, production remained at a lower figure.

Exports from Turkey
In 2022, exports of iron or steel chain from Turkey shrank slightly to X tons, stabilizing at 2021. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.2% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 28% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons, leveling off in the following year.
In value terms, metal chain exports surged to $X in 2022. Overall, total exports indicated strong growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.3% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +55.5% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 32% against the previous year. The exports peaked in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in years to come.
Exports by Country
Germany (X tons), the United States (X tons) and France (X tons) were the main destinations of metal chain exports from Turkey, together comprising 40% of total exports. Spain, Poland, Russia, Romania, Tunisia, Iraq, Algeria, the Czech Republic, Austria and the Netherlands lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 33%.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Tunisia (with a CAGR of +124.0%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Germany ($X), the United States ($X) and Russia ($X) were the largest markets for metal chain exported from Turkey worldwide, with a combined 37% share of total exports. France, Spain, Poland, Iraq, Algeria, Romania, Austria, Tunisia, the Netherlands and the Czech Republic lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 29%.
In terms of the main countries of destination, Tunisia, with a CAGR of +94.1%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
The average metal chain export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, with an increase of 18% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.0%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when the average export price increased by 19% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton; afterwards, it flattened through to 2022.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Russia ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to the Czech Republic ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Algeria (+5.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Turkey
In 2022, metal chain imports into Turkey skyrocketed to X tons, rising by 21% compared with the year before. In general, imports saw a strong expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 54%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in the near future.
In value terms, metal chain imports expanded markedly to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, showed a noticeable descent. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 37% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
In 2022, China (X tons) was the main metal chain supplier to Turkey, accounting for a 93% share of total imports. It was followed by South Africa (X tons), with a 3% share of total imports. Italy (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 0.9% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from China stood at +11.2%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: South Africa (-1.0% per year) and Italy (-15.8% per year).
In value terms, China ($X) constituted the largest supplier of iron or steel chain to Turkey, comprising 65% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Italy ($X), with an 11% share of total imports. It was followed by Germany, with a 9.7% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from China stood at +7.7%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Italy (-10.9% per year) and Germany (-6.9% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The average metal chain import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, with a decrease of -12.7% against the previous year. In general, the import price continues to indicate a abrupt descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when the average import price increased by 13%. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while the price for China ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by India (+13.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
