Italy (X tons) was the main destination for kaolin exports from Turkey, accounting for a 78% share of total exports. Moreover, kaolin exports to Italy exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Spain (X tons), fourfold. Lebanon (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 0.7% share.

Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, kaolin imports soared to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a notable increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.7% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +80.6% against 2019 indices. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Ukraine (X tons), the UK (X tons) and Bulgaria (X tons) were the main suppliers of kaolin imports to Turkey, together comprising 83% of total imports. These countries were followed by Germany, the United States, Portugal and France, which together accounted for a further 13%.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Germany (with a CAGR of +11.5%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was the United States ($X per ton), while the price for Ukraine ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
