After two years of growth, the Turkish market for natural calcium and aluminium phosphates decreased by -33.8% to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Greece (X tons) was the main destination for natural calcium and aluminium phosphates exports from Turkey, accounting for a 92% share of total exports. From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Greece stood at -24.2%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Iraq (-37.0% per year) and Azerbaijan (+66.4% per year).

In value terms, the largest markets for natural calcium and aluminium phosphates exported from Turkey were Greece ($X), Iraq ($X) and Azerbaijan ($X), together accounting for 51% of total exports.

In terms of the main countries of destination, Azerbaijan, with a CAGR of +38.9%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced a decline.

In 2021, the average export price for natural calcium and aluminium phosphates amounted to $X per ton, falling by -24% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when the average export price increased by 45%. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Spain ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Greece ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

Imports into Turkey

In 2021, after nine years of growth, there was significant decline in overseas purchases of natural calcium and aluminium phosphates, when their volume decreased by -41.9% to X tons. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a notable increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 when imports increased by 38% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X tons in 2020, and then contracted sharply in the following year.

In value terms, natural calcium and aluminium phosphates imports shrank rapidly to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 when imports increased by 37% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2020, and then dropped remarkably in the following year.

In 2021, Morocco (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of natural calcium and aluminium phosphates to Turkey, accounting for a 79% share of total imports. Moreover, natural calcium and aluminium phosphates imports from Morocco exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Togo (X tons), eightfold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Egypt (X tons), with a 7.4% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Morocco stood at +4.4%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Togo (+0.9% per year) and Egypt (+130.8% per year).

In value terms, Morocco ($X) constituted the largest supplier of natural calcium and aluminium phosphates to Turkey, comprising 84% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Togo ($X), with a 10% share of total imports. It was followed by Egypt, with a 4.6% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Morocco amounted to +1.1%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Togo (-5.3% per year) and Egypt (+125.1% per year).

The average import price for natural calcium and aluminium phosphates stood at $X per ton in 2021, with an increase of 20% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, continues to indicate a pronounced shrinkage. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
