Newspaper Market Size in Turkey
The Turkish newspaper market was estimated at $X in 2022, flattening at the previous year. In general, consumption, however, saw a perceptible slump. Overall, exports, however, faced a dramatic shrinkage. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 30%. The exports peaked at X units in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, newspaper exports soared to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed a dramatic shrinkage. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 53% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
Cyprus (X units), Germany (X units) and the UK (X units) were the main destinations of newspaper exports from Turkey, together comprising 81% of total exports. The Netherlands, France, the United States, Romania, Bulgaria, Georgia and Greece lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 15%.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Romania (with a CAGR of +45.3%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest markets for newspaper exported from Turkey were Germany ($X), Cyprus ($X) and the United States ($X), with a combined 77% share of total exports. The UK, the Netherlands, France, Romania, Bulgaria, Greece and Georgia lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 19%.
In terms of the main countries of destination, Romania, with a CAGR of +71.2%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
The average newspaper export price stood at $X per unit in 2022, with an increase of 6.1% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.5%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when the average export price increased by 28% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $X per unit in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($X per unit), while the average price for exports to Bulgaria ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the United States (+21.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Turkey
In 2022, approx. X units of newspapers, journals and periodicals were imported into Turkey; dropping by -25.2% on the previous year's figure. In general, imports saw a dramatic setback. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 with an increase of 13% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X units. From 2014 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, newspaper imports contracted to $X in 2022. Overall, imports faced a sharp decrease. The smallest decline of -2.4% was in 2021. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
The UK (X units), Germany (X units) and Belgium (X units) were the main suppliers of newspaper imports to Turkey, together comprising 62% of total imports. The Netherlands, the United States, Italy, France and Austria lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 34%.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for the Netherlands (with a CAGR of +1.8%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced a decline.
In value terms, the largest newspaper suppliers to Turkey were the UK ($X), the United States ($X) and Germany ($X), together accounting for 71% of total imports. These countries were followed by Belgium, the Netherlands, Italy, France and Austria, which together accounted for a further 27%.
The Netherlands, with a CAGR of +2.5%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced a decline.

The average newspaper import price stood at $X per unit in 2022, picking up by 25% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.9%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 an increase of 26%. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($X per unit), while the price for Belgium ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
