The Turkish optical fiber cables market shrank to $X in 2022, which is down by -13.5% against the previous year. Overall, consumption, however, enjoyed a strong expansion. Over the period under review, the market reached the maximum level at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, consumption remained at a lower figure.

In 2022, optical fiber cables exports from Turkey skyrocketed to X tons, jumping by 25% on the year before. Over the period under review, total exports indicated a buoyant expansion from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +6.0% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +63.9% against 2018 indices. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, optical fiber cables exports surged to $X in 2022. In general, total exports indicated a strong increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +7.1% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +79.8% against 2015 indices. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Exports by Country

Israel (X tons), the United States (X tons) and Azerbaijan (X tons) were the main destinations of optical fiber cables exports from Turkey, together comprising 36% of total exports. Egypt, Iraq, the United Arab Emirates, Canada, Germany, France, Spain, Libya, Bulgaria and Turkmenistan lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 42%.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Canada (with a CAGR of +110.5%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the United States ($X), Israel ($X) and the United Arab Emirates ($X) constituted the largest markets for optical fiber cables exported from Turkey worldwide, with a combined 35% share of total exports. Egypt, Germany, Iraq, Canada, Libya, Azerbaijan, France, Spain, Bulgaria and Turkmenistan lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 42%.

Canada, with a CAGR of +114.3%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, in terms of the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the average optical fiber cables export price amounted to $X per ton, with an increase of 7.2% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.0%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of 39% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2019 to 2022, the average export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Azerbaijan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Germany (+5.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Turkey

In 2022, supplies from abroad of optical fiber cables decreased by -35.6% to X tons for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year rising trend. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a buoyant increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when imports increased by 108% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tons in 2021, and then shrank remarkably in the following year.

In value terms, optical fiber cables imports reduced to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, posted a resilient expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when imports increased by 44%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at $X in 2021, and then declined in the following year.

Imports by Country

In 2022, China (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of optical fiber cables to Turkey, accounting for a 88% share of total imports. Moreover, optical fiber cables imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, the UK (X tons), more than tenfold. Vietnam (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 2.4% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from China amounted to +13.6%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the UK (+6.6% per year) and Vietnam (+65.3% per year).

In value terms, China ($X) constituted the largest supplier of optical fiber cables to Turkey, comprising 49% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the United States ($X), with a 7.7% share of total imports. It was followed by the UK, with a 6.3% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value from China totaled +11.0%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the United States (+22.1% per year) and the UK (+11.9% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the average optical fiber cables import price amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 43% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, showed a slight contraction. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($X per ton), while the price for China ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Vietnam (+11.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
