In general, exports showed a significant increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when exports increased by 156,210% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in the near future.

In value terms, palm kernel oil exports soared to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports recorded significant growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 58,898% against the previous year. The exports peaked in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Russia (X tons), Georgia (X tons) and Greece (X tons) were the main destinations of palm kernel oil exports from Turkey, with a combined 98% share of total exports.

In 2022, supplies from abroad of palm kernel and babassu oil decreased by -6.6% to X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 19% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, palm kernel oil imports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. In general, total imports indicated a pronounced increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +2.6% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +162.1% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 76%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in years to come.

In 2022, Malaysia (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of palm kernel oil to Turkey, accounting for a 89% share of total imports. Moreover, palm kernel oil imports from Malaysia exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Indonesia (X tons), eightfold.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from Malaysia amounted to +5.6%.

In value terms, Malaysia ($X) constituted the largest supplier of palm kernel and babassu oil to Turkey, comprising 87% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Indonesia ($X), with a 13% share of total imports.

The average palm kernel oil import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, growing by 36% against the previous year. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period.
