Pineapple Market Size in Turkey

In 2022, the Turkish pineapple market decreased by -29% to $X for the first time since 2011, thus ending a ten-year rising trend. In general, the total consumption indicated pronounced growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +2.1% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Pineapple consumption peaked at $X in 2021, and then fell rapidly in the following year.

In 2022, the amount of pineapples exported from Turkey shrank markedly to X tons, with a decrease of -21.5% compared with 2021. Overall, exports, however, posted a significant expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 when exports increased by 1,170%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, pineapple exports contracted rapidly to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, enjoyed significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when exports increased by 702%. The exports peaked at $X in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

Azerbaijan (X tons), Uzbekistan (X tons) and Iraq (X tons) were the main destinations of pineapple exports from Turkey, with a combined 61% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Uzbekistan (with a CAGR of +166.1%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Azerbaijan ($X), Uzbekistan ($X) and Iraq ($X) were the largest markets for pineapple exported from Turkey worldwide, together accounting for 37% of total exports.

In terms of the main countries of destination, Uzbekistan, with a CAGR of +176.0%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the average pineapple export price amounted to $X per ton, which is down by -19.9% against the previous year. In general, the export price continues to indicate a slight decrease. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when the average export price increased by 149%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2021 to 2022, the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was France ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Georgia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Uzbekistan (+3.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

Imports into Turkey

In 2022, overseas purchases of pineapples decreased by -32.3% to X tons for the first time since 2011, thus ending a ten-year rising trend. Overall, imports, however, posted a perceptible expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 20%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X tons in 2021, and then dropped rapidly in the following year.

In value terms, pineapple imports fell remarkably to $X in 2022. In general, total imports indicated a measured expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +2.2% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 11% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at $X in 2021, and then declined dramatically in the following year.

Imports by Country

In 2022, Costa Rica (X tons) was the main supplier of pineapple to Turkey, accounting for a 96% share of total imports. It was followed by Cote d'Ivoire (X tons), with a 1.9% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from Costa Rica stood at +6.9%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Cote d'Ivoire (0.0% per year) and Panama (-35.4% per year).

In value terms, Costa Rica ($X) constituted the largest supplier of pineapples to Turkey, comprising 95% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Cote d'Ivoire ($X), with a 2.2% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Costa Rica amounted to +5.1%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Cote d'Ivoire (0.0% per year) and Panama (-36.3% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The average pineapple import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, picking up by 7.3% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, recorded a mild descent. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Cote d'Ivoire ($X per ton), while the price for Costa Rica ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Panama (-1.5%).
