Overall, exports, however, enjoyed significant growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 139% against the previous year. The exports peaked at X tons in 2021, and then plummeted in the following year.

In value terms, polyethylene binder exports shrank remarkably to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded a significant increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 131%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at $X in 2021, and then fell rapidly in the following year.

Exports by Country

The United States (X tons), Portugal (X tons) and Spain (X tons) were the main destinations of polyethylene binder exports from Turkey, with a combined 40% share of total exports. Italy, Egypt, Israel, Iraq, Ireland, the UK, Syrian Arab Republic, Belgium, Uzbekistan and Albania lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 41%.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Ireland (with a CAGR of +446.7%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Over the period under review, the export price, however, saw a noticeable decrease. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when the average export price increased by 20%. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Average prices varied somewhat for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the highest price was recorded for prices to Ireland ($X per ton) and the United States ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Iraq ($X per ton) and Italy ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.

Overall, imports, however, enjoyed significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 59%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X tons in 2021, and then reduced in the following year.

In value terms, polyethylene binder imports reduced slightly to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, enjoyed a prominent expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 64% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at $X in 2021, and then fell slightly in the following year.

Portugal (X tons), Hungary (X tons) and Iran (X tons) were the main suppliers of polyethylene binder imports to Turkey, together comprising 99% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Portugal (with a CAGR of +163.6%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average polyethylene binder import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, growing by 9.2% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, recorded a mild setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the average import price increased by 12% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Hungary ($X per ton), while the price for Germany ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Hungary (+0.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
