In 2021, overseas shipments of prepared or preserved hams and cuts of swine meat increased by 16% to X tons, rising for the second year in a row after three years of decline. Overall, exports posted a buoyant increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 364% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum in 2021 and are likely to continue growth in years to come.
In value terms, preserved swine meat exports expanded significantly to $X in 2021. In general, exports enjoyed buoyant growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 298% against the previous year. The exports peaked at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
Seychelles (X tons) was the main destination for preserved swine meat exports from Turkey, accounting for a 88% share of total exports. Moreover, preserved swine meat exports to Seychelles exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Georgia (X kg), tenfold.
From 2015 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume to Seychelles amounted to +213.8%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Georgia (-29.1% per year) and Luxembourg (0.0% per year).
In value terms, Seychelles ($X) remains the key foreign market for prepared or preserved hams and cuts of swine meat exports from Turkey, comprising 85% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Georgia ($X), with a 9.7% share of total exports.
From 2015 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Seychelles totaled +158.6%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Georgia (-30.6% per year) and Luxembourg (0.0% per year).

The average preserved swine meat export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, which is down by -3.2% against the previous year. Overall, the export price recorded a perceptible setback. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when the average export price increased by 75%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2017 to 2021, the average export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Luxembourg ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Seychelles ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2015 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Maldives (+127.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

Imports into Turkey
In 2021, imports of prepared or preserved hams and cuts of swine meat into Turkey expanded remarkably to X tons, with an increase of 9.5% compared with the year before. In general, imports showed a prominent increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 81% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X tons in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, preserved swine meat imports expanded sharply to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, total imports indicated prominent growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.7% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +51.5% against 2017 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when imports increased by 107% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

Greece (X tons), Italy (X tons) and the Netherlands (X tons) were the main suppliers of preserved swine meat imports to Turkey, with a combined 98% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for the Netherlands (with a CAGR of +37.0%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.
In value terms, Italy ($X) constituted the largest supplier of prepared or preserved hams and cuts of swine meat to Turkey, comprising 62% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by the Netherlands ($X), with a 20% share of total imports. It was followed by Greece, with a 17% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Italy stood at +1.9%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the Netherlands (+45.5% per year) and Greece (+26.6% per year).

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Italy ($X per ton), while the price for Greece ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Netherlands (+6.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
