The Turkish market for raspberries, blackberries, blueberries, and cranberries amounted to $X in 2022, almost unchanged from the previous year. In value terms, raspberry, blackberry, blueberry, and cranberry production totaled $X in 2022 estimated in export price. In general, production continues to indicate buoyant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when the production volume increased by 134%. Raspberry, blackberry, blueberry, and cranberry production peaked at $X in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, production stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2022, the average raspberry, blackberry, blueberry, and cranberry yield in Turkey declined rapidly to X tons per ha, falling by -54.6% against the previous year's figure. Overall, the yield, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when the yield increased by 240% against the previous year. As a result, the yield reached the peak level of X tons per ha, and then declined rapidly in the following year. Despite the increased use of modern agricultural techniques and methods, future yield figures may still be impacted by adverse weather conditions.

In 2022, approx. X ha of raspberries, blackberries, blueberries, and cranberries were harvested in Turkey; with an increase of 121% compared with 2021. Over the period under review, the harvested area showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The raspberry, blackberry, blueberry, and cranberry harvested area peaked at X ha in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the harvested area remained at a lower figure.

Exports from Turkey

After five years of growth, overseas shipments of raspberries, blackberries, blueberries, and cranberries decreased by -40% to X tons in 2022. Overall, exports, however, showed a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when exports increased by 399%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2021, and then reduced notably in the following year.

In value terms, raspberry, blackberry, blueberry, and cranberry exports shrank to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, showed a significant increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 426% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at $X in 2021, and then shrank in the following year.

Exports by Country

Iraq (X tons), Germany (X tons) and Russia (X tons) were the main destinations of raspberry, blackberry, blueberry, and cranberry exports from Turkey, together comprising 76% of total exports. The United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Kazakhstan and Romania lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 18%.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Bahrain (with a CAGR of +142.8%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Germany ($X) remains the key foreign market for raspberries, blackberries, blueberries, and cranberries exports from Turkey, comprising 50% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by the United Arab Emirates ($X), with a 9.1% share of total exports. It was followed by Iraq, with an 8.2% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value to Germany amounted to +86.6%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the United Arab Emirates (+100.7% per year) and Iraq (+14.9% per year).

In 2022, the average export price for raspberries, blackberries, blueberries, and cranberries amounted to $X per ton, jumping by 48% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price saw a buoyant expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 an increase of 124% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs in 2022 and is likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Romania ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Iraq ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

In general, imports enjoyed a resilient expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 51%. Imports peaked in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in years to come.

In value terms, raspberry, blackberry, blueberry, and cranberry imports dropped to $X in 2022. Overall, imports continue to indicate a buoyant increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 with an increase of 63%. Imports peaked at $X in 2021, and then reduced in the following year.

In 2022, Peru (X tons) constituted the largest raspberry, blackberry, blueberry, and cranberry supplier to Turkey, accounting for a 48% share of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Morocco ($X), with an 18% share of total imports. It was followed by the Netherlands, with an 11% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value from Peru amounted to +91.5%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Morocco (+66.3% per year) and the Netherlands (+25.2% per year).

The average import price for raspberries, blackberries, blueberries, and cranberries stood at $X per ton in 2022, dropping by -25.3% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import price indicated a resilient increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +8.5% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, raspberry, blackberry, blueberry, and cranberry import price decreased by -39.0% against 2017 indices.
