Paddy Rice Market Size in Turkey

Exports from Turkey
In 2021, approx. X tons of paddy rice were exported from Turkey; reducing by -14.3% on 2020 figures. In general, exports continue to indicate a drastic downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 4,996% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2017 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, paddy rice exports fell modestly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports saw a abrupt curtailment. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when exports increased by 2,011%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2017 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
Russia (X tons), Bulgaria (X tons) and Ukraine (X tons) were the main destinations of paddy rice exports from Turkey, with a combined 82% share of total exports. Panama, Norway, Liberia and Marshall Islands lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 9.1%.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Norway (with a CAGR of +24.9%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Russia ($X), Bulgaria ($X) and Ukraine ($X) constituted the largest markets for paddy rice exported from Turkey worldwide, together comprising 72% of total exports. Panama, Liberia, Norway and Marshall Islands lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 15%.
Norway, with a CAGR of +23.4%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, among the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the average paddy rice export price amounted to $X per ton, surging by 12% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, saw a noticeable slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when the average export price increased by 76% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Panama ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Ukraine ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Syrian Arab Republic (+27.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.
Paddy Rice Imports
Imports into Turkey
After two years of growth, supplies from abroad of paddy rice decreased by -59.3% to X tons in 2021. Overall, imports saw a abrupt downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 82% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, paddy rice imports contracted significantly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports faced a deep downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 115% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
Russia (X tons), Bulgaria (X tons) and Ukraine (X tons) were the main suppliers of paddy rice imports to Turkey, together accounting for 98% of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were in Bulgaria (with a CAGR of +7.1%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced a decline.
In value terms, Russia ($X), Bulgaria ($X) and Ukraine ($X) constituted the largest paddy rice suppliers to Turkey, with a combined 98% share of total imports.
Bulgaria, with a CAGR of +12.1%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced a decline.
Import Prices by Country
The average paddy rice import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, rising by 4.3% against the previous year. Over the last nine-year period, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.8%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when the average import price increased by 21%. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, the countries with the highest prices were Bulgaria ($X per ton) and Greece ($X per ton), while the price for Ukraine ($X per ton) and Russia ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Ukraine (+6.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
