The Turkish soap market dropped markedly to $X in 2021, which is down by -58.8% against the previous year. Over the period under review, consumption continues to indicate a deep downturn. As a result, consumption reached the peak level of $X. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of the market remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Soap Production in Turkey
In value terms, soap production reduced to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. Over the period under review, production saw a drastic downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when the production volume increased by 7.7%. Over the period under review, production attained the peak level at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, production stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports from Turkey
In 2021, overseas shipments of soap increased by 28% to X tons, rising for the fifth year in a row after two years of decline. Overall, total exports indicated a buoyant increase from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +7.8% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +92.3% against 2016 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 37%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2021 and are likely to continue growth in the near future.
In value terms, soap exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. In general, total exports indicated a remarkable increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.0% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +90.9% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 43% against the previous year. The exports peaked in 2021 and are likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.
Exports by Country
Iraq (X tons) was the main destination for soap exports from Turkey, with a 7.2% share of total exports. Moreover, soap exports to Iraq exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Russia (X tons), twofold. The United States (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 3% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Iraq totaled -2.1%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Russia (-8.2% per year) and the United States (+22.5% per year).
In value terms, the largest markets for soap exported from Turkey were Iraq ($X), Russia ($X) and the UK ($X), together comprising 15% of total exports. The United States, the Netherlands, Germany, Israel, Romania, Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, Poland, Libya and Morocco lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 18%.
The United States, with a CAGR of +20.7%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, in terms of the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
The average soap export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, growing by 4.5% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, showed a noticeable descent. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Israel ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Germany (+2.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Turkey
In 2021, imports of soap into Turkey was estimated at X tons, increasing by 5.3% compared with the previous year's figure. In general, total imports indicated a strong increase from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +9.2% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports decreased by -0.4% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when imports increased by 59%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country
In 2021, Malaysia (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of soap to Turkey, with a 39% share of total imports. Moreover, soap imports from Malaysia exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Indonesia (X tons), threefold. Germany (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 5.8% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume from Malaysia amounted to +11.9%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Indonesia (+2.0% per year) and Germany (+3.7% per year).
In value terms, Malaysia ($X) constituted the largest supplier of soap to Turkey, comprising 33% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Germany ($X), with a 9.8% share of total imports. It was followed by Indonesia, with an 8.8% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value from Malaysia amounted to +15.9%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Germany (+3.7% per year) and Indonesia (+2.8% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the average soap import price amounted to $X per ton, picking up by 41% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was France ($X per ton), while the price for Indonesia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Malaysia (+3.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
