Strawberry Market Size in Turkey
In 2022, the Turkish strawberry market decreased by -1.4% to $X for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year rising trend. Strawberry Production in Turkey
In value terms, strawberry production rose modestly to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. In general, the total production indicated a measured increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.7% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, production decreased by -2.5% against 2018 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 48%. As a result, production attained the peak level of $X. From 2019 to 2022, production growth failed to regain momentum.
In 2022, the average yield of strawberries in Turkey dropped to X tons per ha, reducing by -7.4% on 2021. The yield figure increased at an average annual rate of +1.9% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 18%. As a result, the yield attained the peak level of X tons per ha, and then fell in the following year. Despite the increased use of modern agricultural techniques and methods, future yield figures may still be impacted by adverse weather conditions.
In 2022, the harvested area of strawberries in Turkey shrank modestly to X ha, dropping by -1.9% against 2021. The harvested area increased at an average annual rate of +3.7% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when the harvested area increased by 12%. The strawberry harvested area peaked at X ha in 2021, and then fell in the following year.

Exports from Turkey
In 2022, the amount of strawberries exported from Turkey reduced sharply to X tons, which is down by -18.3% against the previous year. Overall, exports, however, posted a tangible increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 65% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons, and then reduced dramatically in the following year.
In value terms, strawberry exports shrank dramatically to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate a tangible expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 94%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2021, and then reduced rapidly in the following year.
Exports by Country
Russia (X tons) was the main destination for strawberry exports from Turkey, accounting for a 75% share of total exports. Moreover, strawberry exports to Russia exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Romania (X tons), eightfold. The third position in this ranking was held by Iraq (X tons), with a 4.6% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Russia stood at +7.7%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Romania (-3.7% per year) and Iraq (+4.3% per year).
In value terms, Russia ($X) remains the key foreign market for strawberries exports from Turkey, comprising 73% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Romania ($X), with a 13% share of total exports. It was followed by Kazakhstan, with a 2.6% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Russia stood at +6.2%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Romania (+1.9% per year) and Kazakhstan (+31.8% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The average strawberry export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, reducing by -16.2% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 an increase of 36%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2014 to 2022, the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Kazakhstan ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Syrian Arab Republic ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Romania (+5.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.
Strawberry Imports
Imports into Turkey
In 2022, purchases abroad of strawberries increased by 171% to X tons for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Overall, imports, however, showed a noticeable decrease. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when imports increased by 905% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, strawberry imports soared to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a perceptible downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when imports increased by 807%. Imports peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
Russia (X tons) and Romania (X tons) were the main suppliers of strawberry imports to Turkey.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Romania (with a CAGR of +6,222.2%).
In value terms, Romania ($X) and Russia ($X) constituted the largest strawberry suppliers to Turkey.
In terms of the main suppliers, Romania, with a CAGR of +2,166.7%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review.
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the average strawberry import price amounted to $X per ton, falling by -16.5% against the previous year. In general, the import price recorded a pronounced curtailment. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when the average import price increased by 29%. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Romania ($X per ton), while the price for Russia totaled $X per ton.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Egypt (+11.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
