Over the period under review, consumption, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by 43% against the previous year. The exports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

Iraq (X tons), Lebanon (X tons) and Syrian Arab Republic (X tons) were the main destinations of pasta and couscous exports from Turkey, with a combined 56% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Syrian Arab Republic (with a CAGR of +112.9%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Syrian Arab Republic ($X), Iraq ($X) and Lebanon ($X) were the largest markets for pasta and couscous exported from Turkey worldwide, together accounting for 52% of total exports.

The average pasta and couscous export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, jumping by 19% against the previous year. Over the period under review, export price indicated a pronounced expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.5% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Imports into Turkey

Pasta and couscous imports into Turkey skyrocketed to X tons in 2022, rising by 43% on the year before. In general, imports showed strong growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 193%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2015 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, pasta and couscous imports surged to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 with an increase of 233% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2015 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2022, China (X tons) constituted the largest pasta and couscous supplier to Turkey, accounting for a 54% share of total imports. Moreover, pasta and couscous imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Iran (X tons), fivefold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Italy (X tons), with a 9% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from China stood at +38.0%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Iran (+250.6% per year) and Italy (-2.5% per year).

In value terms, China ($X) constituted the largest supplier of stuffed pasta and couscous to Turkey, comprising 46% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Italy ($X), with a 19% share of total imports. It was followed by Vietnam, with a 7.8% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from China amounted to +27.6%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Italy (-5.0% per year) and Vietnam (+221.7% per year).

In 2022, the average pasta and couscous import price amounted to $X per ton, reducing by -19.5% against the previous year. In general, the import price showed a pronounced curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 an increase of 15%. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Indonesia ($X per ton), while the price for Iran ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
