The Turkish table linen market contracted to $X in 2022, dropping by -11.1% against the previous year. Overall, consumption, however, continues to indicate a resilient expansion. Table linen consumption peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, consumption remained at a lower figure.

The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when the production volume increased by 185%. Exports from Turkey

In 2022, table linen exports from Turkey shrank remarkably to X tons, dropping by -16.4% against 2021. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.6% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when exports increased by 28%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons, and then contracted rapidly in the following year.

In value terms, table linen exports reduced modestly to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 34%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

The Netherlands (X tons), Italy (X tons) and Germany (X tons) were the main destinations of table linen exports from Turkey, with a combined 31% share of total exports. Iraq, Israel, Libya, Serbia, the United States, Romania, Georgia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, France and Belgium lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 34%.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Israel (with a CAGR of +27.7%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Germany ($X), Italy ($X) and the Netherlands ($X) constituted the largest markets for table linen exported from Turkey worldwide, together comprising 32% of total exports. The United States, Libya, Israel, France, Belgium, Iraq, Serbia, Romania, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Georgia lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 36%.

Among the main countries of destination, Israel, with a CAGR of +21.5%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average table linen export price amounted to $X per ton, growing by 17% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, showed a slight shrinkage. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to the Netherlands ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Libya (+10.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Turkey

In 2022, imports of table linen, knitted or crocheted into Turkey reduced to X tons, declining by -14.9% against 2021 figures. Overall, imports recorded a deep reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 46%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, table linen imports dropped to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports recorded a deep contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 18% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2022, China (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of table linen to Turkey, with a 41% share of total imports. Moreover, table linen imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, India (X tons), twofold. Iran (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 12% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from China stood at -10.1%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: India (-9.0% per year) and Iran (+89.1% per year).

In value terms, China ($X) constituted the largest supplier of table linen, knitted or crocheted to Turkey, comprising 42% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by India ($X), with a 19% share of total imports. It was followed by Bangladesh, with a 7.4% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value from China stood at -6.0%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: India (-10.9% per year) and Bangladesh (+58.2% per year).

The average table linen import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, rising by 8.6% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.8%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 an increase of 17% against the previous year. The import price peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Spain ($X per ton), while the price for Iran ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Indonesia (+12.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
