Exports from Turkey
In 2021, the amount of tapioca and substitutes exported from Turkey reduced markedly to X kg, falling by -58.5% against the previous year's figure. In general, exports showed a sharp decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 382% against the previous year. The exports peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, tapioca and substitutes exports shrank markedly to $X in 2021. Overall, exports continue to indicate a precipitous decrease. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 256% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Greece (X kg) was the main destination for tapioca and substitutes exports from Turkey, accounting for a 24% share of total exports. Moreover, tapioca and substitutes exports to Greece exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Lebanon (X kg), twofold. The third position in this ranking was held by Marshall Islands (X kg), with a 9.3% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume to Greece amounted to +42.3%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Lebanon (0.0% per year) and Marshall Islands (-15.2% per year).
In value terms, Greece ($X), Lebanon ($X) and Canada ($X) appeared to be the largest markets for tapioca and substitutes exported from Turkey worldwide, together comprising 66% of total exports. These countries were followed by Marshall Islands, Panama, Singapore, Malta, Liberia, the United Arab Emirates, Portugal, Bahamas, Japan and France, which together accounted for a further 21%.
In terms of the main countries of destination, Portugal, with a CAGR of +1,250.0%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
The average tapioca and substitutes export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, dropping by -3.9% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, continues to indicate a prominent increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 an increase of 94%. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Lebanon ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Malta ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Liberia (+35.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Turkey
In 2021, the amount of tapioca and substitutes imported into Turkey skyrocketed to X tons, with an increase of 36% against 2020 figures. Over the period under review, imports posted pronounced growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 3,889% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure in 2021 and are likely to see gradual growth in the near future.
In value terms, tapioca and substitutes imports surged to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, recorded a abrupt decline. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 987% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Taiwan (Chinese) (X tons) constituted the largest tapioca and substitutes supplier to Turkey, accounting for a 81% share of total imports. Moreover, tapioca and substitutes imports from Taiwan (Chinese) exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Thailand (X tons), fivefold.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Taiwan (Chinese) stood at +9.5%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Thailand (+82.6% per year) and India (+9.9% per year).
In value terms, Taiwan (Chinese) ($X) constituted the largest supplier of tapioca and substitutes to Turkey, comprising 73% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Thailand ($X), with a 16% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value from Taiwan (Chinese) stood at +8.1%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Thailand (+50.8% per year) and India (+2.2% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the average tapioca and substitutes import price amounted to $X per ton, with an increase of 20% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, showed a deep setback. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when the average import price increased by 242% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was India ($X per ton), while the price for Taiwan (Chinese) ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
