Exports from Turkey
In 2021, overseas shipments of vitrifiable enamels and glazes for ceramics, enamelling or glass decreased by -27.6% to X tons, falling for the second year in a row after five years of growth. In general, exports, however, saw a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when exports increased by 131% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, enamels and glazes exports dropped notably to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, enjoyed significant growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 126% against the previous year. The exports peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
Iran (X tons), Uzbekistan (X tons) and Azerbaijan (X tons) were the main destinations of enamels and glazes exports from Turkey, together accounting for 86% of total exports. Ecuador, Egypt and Algeria lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 6.9%.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Ecuador (with a CAGR of +1,417.0%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest markets for enamels and glazes exported from Turkey were Iran ($X), Uzbekistan ($X) and Egypt ($X), together accounting for 75% of total exports. These countries were followed by Azerbaijan, Ecuador and Algeria, which together accounted for a further 11%.
Among the main countries of destination, Ecuador, with a CAGR of +1,414.0%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the average enamels and glazes export price amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 9.8% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, showed a drastic downturn. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Egypt ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Ecuador ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Uzbekistan (+4.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

Imports into Turkey
In 2021, overseas purchases of vitrifiable enamels and glazes for ceramics, enamelling or glass increased by 8% to X tons, rising for the second year in a row after two years of decline. Overall, imports continue to indicate a pronounced increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 113%. Imports peaked in 2021 and are likely to continue growth in the near future.
In value terms, enamels and glazes imports expanded sharply to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, recorded a pronounced curtailment. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 30%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Spain (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of enamels and glazes to Turkey, with a 85% share of total imports. Moreover, enamels and glazes imports from Spain exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Italy (X tons), tenfold. The third position in this ranking was held by Germany (X tons), with a 2.5% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Spain stood at +2.4%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Italy (-4.0% per year) and Germany (+8.3% per year).
In value terms, the largest enamels and glazes suppliers to Turkey were Spain ($X), Germany ($X) and Italy ($X), with a combined 80% share of total imports. France, China and Egypt lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 4.7%.
Among the main suppliers, France, with a CAGR of +97.9%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the average enamels and glazes import price amounted to $X per ton, surging by 2.1% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, continues to indicate a noticeable decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of 62%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2019 to 2021, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while the price for Spain ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
