Wallpaper Market Size in Turkey

In 2021, the Turkish wallpaper market decreased by -5.3% to $X, falling for the fourth consecutive year after six years of growth. Overall, consumption, however, continues to indicate a prominent increase. Wallpaper consumption peaked at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, consumption failed to regain momentum.

Wallpaper Production in Turkey

In value terms, wallpaper production surged to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. Overall, production, however, enjoyed a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 118%. Over the period under review, production hit record highs at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, production stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports from Turkey

In 2021, shipments abroad of wallpaper and wall coverings increased by 17% to X tons, rising for the fifth consecutive year after two years of decline. Over the period under review, exports posted a prominent expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 110%. The exports peaked in 2021 and are likely to see gradual growth in years to come.

In value terms, wallpaper exports soared to $X in 2021. Overall, exports showed measured growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by 81%. The exports peaked in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

Exports by Country

Iraq (X tons), Uzbekistan (X tons) and Azerbaijan (X tons) were the main destinations of wallpaper exports from Turkey, with a combined 31% share of total exports. Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Russia, the UK, Jordan, Kuwait, the United States, Belarus, Georgia and Iran lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 45%.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Belarus (with a CAGR of +139.1%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the United States ($X), Iraq ($X) and Kazakhstan ($X) constituted the largest markets for wallpaper exported from Turkey worldwide, with a combined 36% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan, Ukraine, Russia, Jordan, the UK, Kuwait, Georgia, Iran and Belarus, which together accounted for a further 37%.

Belarus, with a CAGR of +95.5%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, in terms of the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

The average wallpaper export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, increasing by 24% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, saw a deep slump. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Uzbekistan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the United States (+5.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

Imports into Turkey

In 2021, overseas purchases of wallpaper and wall coverings were finally on the rise to reach X tons after six years of decline. In general, imports, however, showed a sharp decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when imports increased by 18% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, wallpaper imports rose notably to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a precipitous curtailment. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 47%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

Germany (X tons), China (X tons) and Italy (X tons) were the main suppliers of wallpaper imports to Turkey, with a combined 75% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Belgium, Russia, Ukraine, Iraq, the UK and South Korea, which together accounted for a further 17%.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Iraq (with a CAGR of +37.7%), while imports for the other leaders experienced a decline.

In value terms, the largest wallpaper suppliers to Turkey were Germany ($X), Italy ($X) and China ($X), with a combined 69% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Belgium, the UK, Russia, Ukraine, Iraq and South Korea, which together accounted for a further 18%.

Iraq, with a CAGR of +24.0%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced a decline.

Import Prices by Country

The average wallpaper import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, increasing by 2.2% against the previous year. Over the last nine years, it increased at an average annual rate of +4.6%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 an increase of 32% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the UK ($X per ton), while the price for Iraq ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
