Wine Market Size in Turkey
The Turkish wine market soared to $X in 2021, rising by 19% against the previous year. Exports from Turkey
Wine exports from Turkey expanded significantly to X litres in 2021, surging by 13% compared with the previous year. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded a noticeable shrinkage. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when exports increased by 41%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at X litres in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, wine exports surged to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 60% against the previous year. The exports peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
Belgium (X litres), the UK (X litres) and Cyprus (X litres) were the main destinations of wine exports from Turkey, together accounting for 66% of total exports. These countries were followed by Germany, the Netherlands, the United States and Iraq, which together accounted for a further 26%.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for the Netherlands (with a CAGR of +32.1%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest markets for wine exported from Turkey were the UK ($X), Germany ($X) and Belgium ($X), together comprising 60% of total exports. Cyprus, the Netherlands, the United States and Iraq lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 29%.
In terms of the main countries of destination, the Netherlands, with a CAGR of +36.4%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the average wine export price amounted to $X per litre, rising by 10% against the previous year. Over the last nine-year period, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.4%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 an increase of 13%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per litre; afterwards, it flattened through to 2021.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($X per litre), while the average price for exports to Iraq ($X per litre) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Germany (+7.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Turkey
In 2021, purchases abroad of wine increased by 63% to X litres for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Over the period under review, imports saw a prominent increase. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Italy (X litres), Moldova (X litres) and France (X litres) were the main suppliers of wine imports to Turkey, with a combined 74% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Moldova (with a CAGR of +71.8%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, France ($X), Italy ($X) and Moldova ($X) appeared to be the largest wine suppliers to Turkey, together accounting for 83% of total imports.
Among the main suppliers, Moldova, with a CAGR of +79.2%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The average wine import price stood at $X per litre in 2021, surging by 25% against the previous year. Over the last nine-year period, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.1%. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure at $X per litre in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was France ($X per litre), while the price for Moldova ($X per litre) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Portugal (+8.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
