The Turkish mobile phone market declined markedly to $X in 2022, waning by -36.8% against the previous year. Overall, consumption, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, consumption attained the peak level of $X, and then dropped remarkably in the following year.

Exports from Turkey
In 2022, overseas shipments of mobile phones increased by 29% to X units, rising for the second year in a row after four years of decline. Over the period under review, exports saw a tangible expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 with an increase of 110% against the previous year. The exports peaked at X units in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, mobile phone exports dropped rapidly to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, recorded a pronounced decrease. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 154% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
Hong Kong SAR (X units) was the main destination for mobile phone exports from Turkey, with a 57% share of total exports. Moreover, mobile phone exports to Hong Kong SAR exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, the Netherlands (X units), fourfold. China (X units) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 12% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume to Hong Kong SAR amounted to +25.5%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the Netherlands (-5.7% per year) and China (+70.5% per year).
In value terms, the Netherlands ($X) remains the key foreign market for mobile phones exports from Turkey, comprising 55% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Hong Kong SAR ($X), with a 14% share of total exports. It was followed by China, with a 9.1% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to the Netherlands stood at -5.8%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Hong Kong SAR (+17.1% per year) and China (+77.0% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the average mobile phone export price amounted to $X per unit, falling by -36.1% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price showed a deep setback. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 an increase of 29%. The export price peaked at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($X per unit), while the average price for exports to Hong Kong SAR ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to South Korea (+15.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Turkey
In 2022, imports of mobile phones into Turkey declined notably to X units, waning by -20.8% on 2021. Over the period under review, imports faced a abrupt contraction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 23%. Imports peaked at X units in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, mobile phone imports shrank significantly to $X in 2022. Overall, imports continue to indicate a perceptible decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 57%. Imports peaked at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
In 2022, China (X units) constituted the largest supplier of mobile phone to Turkey, with a 77% share of total imports. Moreover, mobile phone imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Vietnam (X units), fourfold. The third position in this ranking was held by India (X units), with a 3.9% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from China totaled -8.1%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Vietnam (-9.5% per year) and India (-15.8% per year).
In value terms, China ($X) constituted the largest supplier of mobile phones to Turkey, comprising 83% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Vietnam ($X), with a 13% share of total imports. It was followed by India, with a 3.7% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value from China was relatively modest. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Vietnam (-4.2% per year) and India (-1.0% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The average mobile phone import price stood at $X per unit in 2022, increasing by 4.5% against the previous year. Overall, the import price continues to indicate prominent growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 an increase of 85% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the maximum in 2022 and is likely to continue growth in years to come.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was China ($X per unit), while the price for Vietnam ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by India (+17.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
