Exports from Turkey
After two years of growth, shipments abroad of glass fibre fabrics decreased by -33.4% to X tons in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, enjoyed buoyant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 201%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons, and then shrank remarkably in the following year.
In value terms, glass fibre fabrics exports reduced notably to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate a measured increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 98% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X, and then declined markedly in the following year.
Exports by Country
Spain (X tons), Italy (X tons) and Portugal (X tons) were the main destinations of glass fibre fabrics exports from Turkey, with a combined 63% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Portugal (with a CAGR of +72.7%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest markets for glass fibre fabrics exported from Turkey were Spain ($X), Italy ($X) and Germany ($X), together accounting for 47% of total exports. Portugal, Poland, the UK, Denmark, Austria, Brazil, Bulgaria, Iran and Romania lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 21%.
In terms of the main countries of destination, Austria, with a CAGR of +56.1%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the average glass fibre fabrics export price amounted to $X per ton, rising by 13% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, showed a abrupt shrinkage. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Bulgaria ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Portugal ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Bulgaria (+18.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Turkey
In 2022, overseas purchases of glass fibre fabrics decreased by -3.4% to X tons for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year rising trend. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.7% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of 16% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tons in 2021, and then reduced in the following year.
In value terms, glass fibre fabrics imports shrank to $X in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +3.0% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 28% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X, and then fell in the following year.
Imports by Country
In 2022, China (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of glass fibre fabrics to Turkey, accounting for a 74% share of total imports. Moreover, glass fibre fabrics imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Germany (X tons), eightfold. The third position in this ranking was held by the Czech Republic (X tons), with a 5.7% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from China totaled +1.8%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Germany (+24.9% per year) and the Czech Republic (+3.3% per year).
In value terms, China ($X) constituted the largest supplier of glass fibre fabrics to Turkey, comprising 55% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Germany ($X), with a 13% share of total imports. It was followed by the Czech Republic, with a 6.1% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from China was relatively modest. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Germany (+13.6% per year) and the Czech Republic (-0.2% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The average glass fibre fabrics import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, with a decrease of -7.8% against the previous year. Overall, the import price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when the average import price increased by 20% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while the price for Egypt ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Egypt (+5.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
