Asbestos Market Size in the U.S.

The U.S. asbestos market soared to $X in 2022, picking up by 2,446% against the previous year. In general, consumption, however, recorded a deep setback. Asbestos consumption peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, consumption remained at a lower figure.

Asbestos Production in the U.S.

In value terms, asbestos production declined slightly to $X in 2022. In general, production, however, continues to indicate a perceptible shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 31%. Over the period under review, production hit record highs at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, production remained at a lower figure.

Exports from the U.S.

In 2022, approx. X tons of asbestoses were exported from the United States; with a decrease of -16.3% on 2021 figures. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate a significant increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 16,047%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, asbestos exports soared to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, recorded strong growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 3,510%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Brazil (X tons) was the main destination for asbestos exports from the United States, accounting for a 55% share of total exports. Moreover, asbestos exports to Brazil exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Venezuela (X tons), twofold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Italy (X tons), with a 10% share.

Asbestos imports into the United States surged to X tons in 2022, increasing by 223% on the year before. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a abrupt curtailment. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, asbestos imports surged to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, showed a abrupt shrinkage. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2022, Brazil (X tons) constituted the largest asbestos supplier to the United States, with a 69% share of total imports. Moreover, asbestos imports from Brazil exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, China (X tons), twofold.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from Brazil totaled -17.9%.

In value terms, Brazil ($X) constituted the largest supplier of asbestoses to the United States, comprising 88% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by China ($X), with a 12% share of total imports.
