Canada (X tons) was the main destination for baryte exports from the United States, accounting for a 64% share of total exports. Moreover, baryte exports to Canada exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Mexico (X tons), threefold.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Canada totaled -13.6%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Mexico (-10.5% per year) and Guyana (+9.8% per year).
In value terms, Canada ($X), Mexico ($X) and Guyana ($X) constituted the largest markets for baryte exported from the United States worldwide, together comprising 87% of total exports.
Guyana, with a CAGR of +8.2%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, in terms of the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced a decline.
Export Prices by Country
The average baryte export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, reducing by -13.7% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when the average export price increased by 55%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2016 to 2021, the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Mexico ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Canada ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Mexico (-0.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.
Baryte Imports
Imports into the U.S.
In 2021, approx. X tons of barytes were imported into the United States; jumping by 66% on the previous year's figure. Overall, imports, however, recorded a slight slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 112%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Vietnam (with a CAGR of +102.7%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest baryte suppliers to the United States were China ($X), Morocco ($X) and India ($X), with a combined 68% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Mexico and Vietnam, which together accounted for a further 29%.
Vietnam, with a CAGR of +129.3%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The average baryte import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, reducing by -15.5% against the previous year. Overall, the import price showed a pronounced decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when the average import price increased by 18%. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Vietnam ($X per ton), while the price for Morocco ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
