The exports peaked at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, benzol, toluol and xylol exports expanded markedly to $X in 2021. In general, exports faced a abrupt downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of 117%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
Mexico (X tons) was the main destination for benzol, toluol and xylol exports from the United States, with a 52% share of total exports. Moreover, benzol, toluol and xylol exports to Mexico exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Canada (X tons), twofold. Taiwan (Chinese) (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 6.7% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Mexico totaled +11.4%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Canada (+2.7% per year) and Taiwan (Chinese) (-9.9% per year).
In value terms, the largest markets for benzol, toluol and xylol exported from the United States were Canada ($X), Mexico ($X) and Costa Rica ($X), together accounting for 67% of total exports. Taiwan (Chinese), Peru, Germany, the Netherlands, China, Guatemala and South Korea lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 22%.
Germany, with a CAGR of +44.4%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, in terms of the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average benzol, toluol and xylol export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, rising by 14% against the previous year. Overall, the export price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 an increase of 56%. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the peak figure in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was China ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Mexico ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

The Netherlands (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 14% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume from Canada totaled -1.5%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Brazil (+25.7% per year) and the Netherlands (+3.6% per year).
In value terms, Canada ($X) constituted the largest supplier of benzol (benzene), toluol (toluene) and xylol (xylenes) to the United States, comprising 39% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Brazil ($X), with a 13% share of total imports. It was followed by the Netherlands, with a 13% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value from Canada stood at -3.9%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Brazil (+20.3% per year) and the Netherlands (+0.7% per year).
