Imports into the U.S.
Black printing ink imports into the United States contracted to X tons in 2022, declining by -6.8% against the year before. Overall, imports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 20%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2020 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, black printing ink imports reduced to $X in 2022. In general, total imports indicated perceptible growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.1% over the last decade. Singapore, South Korea, the UK, the Philippines, Canada, Switzerland, Spain, Costa Rica, Italy and Israel lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 47%.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by the Philippines (with a CAGR of +71.7%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest black printing ink suppliers to the United States were Japan ($X), the UK ($X) and Singapore ($X), with a combined 48% share of total imports. The Philippines, Germany, Israel, India, South Korea, Canada, Italy, Spain, Switzerland and Costa Rica lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 37%.
In terms of the main suppliers, the Philippines, with a CAGR of +51.7%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average black printing ink import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, rising by 2.5% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +4.2%.
