Mexico (X units), China (X units) and Chile (X units) were the main destinations of breathing appliances exports from the United States, with a combined 34% share of total exports. South Korea, France, Germany, Canada, Peru, Poland, Colombia, Argentina, the UK and Brazil lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 39%.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Poland (with a CAGR of +35.2%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Canada ($X) remains the key foreign market for breathing appliances and gas masks exports from the United States, comprising 23% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by China ($X), with a 7.2% share of total exports. It was followed by Germany, with a 6.6% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Canada stood at +3.7%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: China (+11.0% per year) and Germany (+1.3% per year).

Imports into the U.S.
In 2022, imports of breathing appliances and gas masks into the United States expanded to X units, picking up by 4.7% compared with the previous year's figure. In general, imports posted a prominent increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 100%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X units. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, breathing appliances imports shrank modestly to $X in 2022. Overall, imports posted a remarkable increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 39% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
France (X units), the UK (X units) and Mexico (X units) were the main suppliers of breathing appliances imports to the United States, together comprising 50% of total imports. China, Germany, South Korea, Taiwan (Chinese), Canada, Vietnam, Malaysia, the Czech Republic, Italy and Sweden lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 43%.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Vietnam (with a CAGR of +60.5%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, France ($X), the UK ($X) and Germany ($X) were the largest breathing appliances suppliers to the United States, together accounting for 53% of total imports. Mexico, China, Canada, Italy, South Korea, the Czech Republic, Taiwan (Chinese), Malaysia, Vietnam and Sweden lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 33%.
Vietnam, with a CAGR of +44.3%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the average breathing appliances import price amounted to $X per unit, falling by -4.9% against the previous year. In general, the import price saw a drastic downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 an increase of 11%. The import price peaked at $X per unit in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Italy ($X per unit), while the price for Taiwan (Chinese) ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Italy (-0.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
